Comparison of the Supplier Paradox in Closed-Loop Supply Chains with the durability selection problem of products

Thierry et al. (1995) have introduced the supplier paradox in Closed-Loop Supply Chains (CLSC). It has the meaning that a supplier who builds more remanufacturable parts and materials, sells less, because his customer (the manufacturer) has then the possibility to extend the life cycles by emanufacturing used products. The durability selection problem considers the issue that products with higher durability result in lower future sales (consider e.g. nylon stockings with a doubled life duration which will reduce the sales of the manufacturer) and is analyzed in the economics literature (see e.g. Swan (1970)).
In this thesis you have to answer to what extent the supplier paradox is different or similar from the durability selection problem.
