The quality of a returned product may vary greatly, depending on its previous usage. Since remanufacturing of products in good condition is more economically rewarding for the remanufacturer – and since even for non-remanufacturable products the value that can be extracted from its parts or materials may depend on the product’s quality - it seems logical to acquire used products of different quality levels for different prices.
Guide et al. (2003) have been the first who assume quality dependent prices in the acquisition process of mobile phones. They argue that ReCellular, a mobile remanufacturer, can buy from suppliers, who have already graded the used mobile phones in six different quality grades. In this thesis, the
numerical study of Guide et al. (2003) shall be reworked and different scenarios have to be analyzed for determining the value of acquisition price discrimination.
