Motivation: The reduction of buildings heat demand and the supply of it with renewables is one of the targets of the European Energy Efficiency Directive and of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive. Investments in thermal refurbishments and in the change of existing heating systems allow reducing the energy demand, the CO2-emissions as well as the costs for energy supply.

Objective:
Develop an optimization model to determine the investments in thermal refurbishments and heating systems for a country's building stock
Use the model for different objectives: minimization of costs, CO2-emissions, energy demand, etc.
Derive some optimal investment strategies for different building types, which differ in the usage of the buildings, the building age, e.g.
Conduct a case study for one country in the EU

Method of approach:
Literature research
Development of an optimization model for the investments (up to 2050) in thermal refurbishments and heating system for different objectives
Sensitivity analysis
